Well-known senior Supreme Court lawyer and top bar leader Ashok Bhan greeted the people on Constitution Day.
Speaking to lawyers at an event organized by Asia Pacific Lawyers Group, senior Supreme Court lawyer and a prominent bar leader Ashok Bhan wished the citizens of India across the world on “Constitution Day”.
He said this day is a reminder to us that while the Constitution grants rights to citizens, sets out principles, procedures, restrictions and duties for the government, it also imposes duties on citizens to abide by the rule of law.
Bhan said that to safeguard democracy, people should have freedom, self-respect, a deep sense of their unity and oneness and they should insist on electing only such persons as their representatives who are honest, down to earth, good Be truthful and a firm believer in constitutionalism.
Bhan said, “Constitution Day is celebrated every year in India. This day is also known as Constitution Day or National Law Day. Constitution Day is celebrated to commemorate the day when the Constitution of India was adopted. National Constitution Day highlights the importance of the Indian Constitution in governing the country.

This day started being celebrated as National Law Day from 2015 after the Government of India issued a gazette notification. This year, the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution of India, was also celebrated.
Constitution Day is celebrated in India every year on 26 November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. The Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950.
To commemorate the day, the Government of India has launched several initiatives, including online quizzes and reading of the Preamble of the Constitution.
