Despite ceasefire in force, Israel carries out air strike in Lebanon, 2 killed, 6 injured
Beirut, December 1 (IANS). Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanon kill two people and injure six others. Lebanese official and military sources gave this information. The attack came three days after a ceasefire was announced between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Ministry of Public Health’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center said in separate statements on Saturday that three people, including a 7-year-old boy, were injured in an Israeli air strike on a car in the village of Majdal Jaun, Xinhua news agency reported.
“One civilian was injured in an Israeli attack on the village of al-Bisariyeh,” it said.
Meanwhile, the official national news agency said, “Two people were killed and two were wounded in an Israeli attack on the village of Rub al-Thalathin, while the Taybeh water project was hit with artillery fire.”
A Lebanese military source told Xinhua that Israeli forces advanced about 4 kilometers from the border village of Kafr Kila to the village of Der Mimas, located in the east of southern Lebanon. It later withdrew to its positions and entrenched itself 1 kilometer from the eastern bank of the Litani River, north of which Israeli forces are asking Hezbollah to withdraw.
Earlier, according to a statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces, on Saturday the Israeli Air Force attacked four Hezbollah targets in south-western, southern and interior Lebanon.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect in Lebanon at 4 am local time (02:00 GMT/7:30 am IST) on Wednesday. With this, the Israel-Hezbollah conflict that had been going on for almost 13 months came to an end.
The Hezbollah–Israel ceasefire largely holds, although there have been reports of occasional violations by both sides in border areas.
