India is world famous for its religious rituals and culture. Many such religious gatherings are seen here in which people from abroad also come to participate. One such religious gathering is “Kumbh Mela.” This “Kumbh Mela” which is organized after 12 years has great importance. A wonderful confluence of Indian culture and spirituality can be seen in the Kumbh Mela organized on the banks of the confluence of three holy rivers. Therefore ‘Kumbh Mela’ is celebrated as the biggest confluence of Sanatan Dharma in India.
Every 12 years, Kumbh is organized in four special places of India, Ujjain, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Nashik and Haridwar. This time Kumbh is being organized in Prayagraj (Allahabad) of Uttar Pradesh. The Kumbh Mela will start from Paush Purnima of the year 2025 i.e. 13 January and will continue till Mahashivratri 26 February. Preparations are going on in full swing for the Kumbh Mela. But do you know why Kumbh is organized only after 12 years. Let us know the story behind this.
The story is related to Samudra Manthan
Kumbh Mela is organized every 12 years. There are many religious beliefs behind this. It is said that the origin of Kumbh Mela is linked to the churning of the ocean by gods and demons. When the ocean was churned by the gods and demons at the behest of Lord Vishnu, the Amrit Kalash was also produced along with many precious things. But for this nectar there was a war between the gods and demons for 12 days. But these 12 days were equal to 12 years on earth. Apart from this, it is also said that, during the war between gods and demons, 12 drops of nectar fell at 12 places from the nectar pot. Out of these 12 places, 4 places are on Earth. Kumbh is organized only in these four places: Prayagraj, Allahabad, Nashik and Haridwar.
How is the date selected?
As, Kumbh Mela is organized every 12 years at four major places in India. In such a situation, you might be wondering how the date and place of Kumbh is chosen. Let us tell you that Kumbh is also organized after observing the transit of planets. It is said that the Kumbh Mela starts when Lord Jupiter i.e. Jupiter is present in the Taurus sign and the Sun is in the Capricorn sign. In such a situation, on January 13, 2025, the Sun is going to be in Capricorn. Whereas the planet Jupiter is already present in Taurus, which is creating the combination of Aquarius. Therefore, Kumbh Mela is starting from January 13 in Prayagraj.
