Indian Army conducts rescue operation in cyclone affected areas of Puducherry, rescues more than 200 people
Puducherry, 01 December (HS). Indian Army soldiers have rescued more than 200 people while conducting rescue operations in cyclone-affected areas of Puducherry. Chief Minister N Rangasamy has said that rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing and help is being provided to the people continuously. It is being told that Cyclone Fengal is expected to weaken into a deep pressure within a few hours.
In fact, Indian Army troops of Chennai Garrison Battalion under South India Region were sent on Sunday on the request of the District Collector (Puducherry) to assist in rescue operations in the flood affected areas of Puducherry. Who is engaged in carrying out rescue operations at breakneck speed.
According to official sources, a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief contingent consisting of 6 junior commissioned officers and 62 other ranks along with a senior officer has been sent to Puducherry from Chennai. On reaching Puducherry, the commander of the rescue team, Major Ajay Sangwan, was informed about the current situation. According to sources, 50 cm rain has been recorded in 21 hours. Cyclone Fengal has badly affected Villupuram and Puducherry.
The Army Commander was deployed to rescue civilians trapped in around 500 houses in Krishnanagar area of Puducherry. Service duty was imposed in the affected areas of Pondicherry, where the water level reached about 5 feet. However, the rescue operations began at 06 am and more than 200 people have been rescued in the last two hours.
Amid floods in several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the Indian Army on Sunday carried out several rescue operations in several flood-hit areas of Puducherry, including Krishna Nagar, Kuber Nagar and Jiva Nagar, following the severe floods caused by Cyclone Fengal. Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Sunday said the city had received 50 cm rainfall overnight, resulting in floods. He said that rescue teams are working to rescue the trapped people.
