Hyundai will launch a new 7-seater hybrid SUV in the Indian market, know details
The new 7-seater Hyundai SUV will be slotted between the Alcazar and Tucson in the lineup and will likely feature hybrid technology
Hyundai is preparing to launch a new SUV in India, codenamed Ni1i. It is expected to arrive in India in the next two years. Situated between the updated Alcazar and Tuscono in the company’s local passenger car range, the C-segment model will be produced at Hyundai’s Talegaon plant near Pune.
Hyundai is reportedly preparing a series of new SUVs, further strengthening its already popular lineup. Ahead of the launch of the Ni1i, the brand will focus on further expanding its SUV offerings. This hybrid SUV will be Hyundai’s first model to incorporate advanced hybrid technology, offering a significant improvement in mileage.
When launched in the Indian market, this SUV will compete with models like Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and other similar rivals, in which its hybrid powertrain could prove to be a game changer. Along with Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, Mahindra is also considering introducing hybrid SUVs for the Indian market.
The upcoming SUV could be built on the long wheelbase version of the Tuscon, which is currently available in China, measuring 4.68 meters in length. Hyundai plans to offer a more spacious option for the Alcazar while keeping the new model in a more premium price range. Internationally, the Tushun is already offered with a plug-in hybrid option with a 1.6-litre petrol/hybrid engine.
Hyundai could use its current 1.5 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine as the foundation of a hybrid system, potentially incorporating a larger battery pack and an electric motor to boost mileage.
The company is aiming for an annual production target of around 50,000 units for this C-SUV. It is expected to offer multiple powertrain options including standard petrol, strong hybrid and diesel variants along with multiple gearbox options.
