Mohammed Shami’s troubles are unstoppable… now his dream of going to Australia will be shattered, wounds have turned green in SMAT
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has been waiting to return to the Indian cricket team for more than a year, has suffered another setback. Shami suffered the injury during Bengal’s match against Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) on Friday (November 29). Shami last played for the Indian team in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Since then he is out due to injury. After surgery and rehab, he has managed to make a comeback in domestic matches.
Shami injured again
Bengal, who came to bat first, scored 189 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Young opener Karan Lal scored 44 runs in 30 balls. Thanks to half-centuries from Subhranshu Senapati and captain Rajat Patidar, Madhya Pradesh achieved the target with two balls to spare. Shami was injured while bowling for Bengal. While bowling the 19th over of Madhya Pradesh’s innings, Shami fell while trying to stop the ball and got injured in his shoe.
How serious is Shami’s injury?
After the fall, Shami looked unwell and lay on the ground holding his back. The match was being played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium C in Rajkot. Nitin Patel, head of the medical panel of the BCCI Center of Excellence (formerly the National Cricket Academy), reached the ground to inquire about his health. He is traveling with Shami to keep an eye on his progress. Fortunately, Shami did not suffer any serious injuries, as per the report of ESPNcricinfo, Shami is fine.
Shami’s performance

Shami’s return to Border-Gavaskar Trophy doubtful
Shami’s latest injury has once again put his Border-Gavaskar Trophy in danger. He made a successful comeback in the Ranji Trophy after a year’s absence. He has shown excellent form and fitness, which has increased the hopes of his inclusion in the Indian team for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 Test series against Australia. Now due to this injury his hopes have once again suffered a setback.
