Accused Ashish Mishra accused of threatening witnesses, Supreme Court strict, issued notice

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, seeking his reply. Actually, Ashish Mishra has been accused of threatening witnesses. During the hearing on Wednesday, the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan asked Ashish Mishra’s lawyer Siddharth Dave to file an affidavit, in which clarification has been sought on the allegations against Ashish Mishra.

Supreme Court directed to file an affidavit

It is noteworthy that in the year 2021, eight people had lost their lives during the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Ashish Mishra, son of former Union Minister Ajay Mishra, is the main accused in this case. At present Ashish Mishra is out on bail. Now a complainant has filed a petition in the Supreme Court claiming that the witnesses are being intimidated by Ashish Mishra. However, Ashish Mishra’s lawyer denied the allegations. However, the Supreme Court has asked Ashish Mishra to submit an affidavit within four weeks and seek his reply on the allegations.

The Supreme Court had ordered the release of Ashish Mishra on bail on July 22, but directed him not to stay in Delhi and Lucknow, so that he could not influence the witnesses. However, on September 26, the apex court had given permission to Ashish Mishra to live in the National Capital Region. The Supreme Court had also directed the lower court to hear the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case soon.

Eight people lost their lives in the violence that took place in 2021

It is noteworthy that on October 3, 2021, farmers had protested against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya to Lakhimpur. During this time, four farmers were crushed to death by a car. A journalist also died in the violence. Ashish Mishra is the main accused in this case. After the incident, angry farmers also thrashed the driver of the car and two BJP workers to death.
