Dhaka, November 26 (IANS). Following the arrest of priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh, ISKCON Bangladesh on Tuesday revealed that its official social media pages have been targeted by cyber criminals.

In a social media post, ISKCON Bangladesh general secretary Charu Chanda Das Brahmachari said the official Facebook page of the spiritual body in the country, ‘ISKCON TV Dhaka’ – has come under attack from Bangladeshi cyber criminals.

Charu Chanda Das described this Facebook page as ‘an integral platform for promoting Sanatan Dharma, ISKCON teachings and Hindu spiritual values’.

Charu Chanda Das said, “Unfortunately, our ISKCON TV Dhaka page was maliciously targeted and taken down by a group called Cyber Defender Bangladesh. This includes people who present themselves as cyber security experts. The group has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, which is a clear violation of Facebook’s policies and evidence of cyber oppression of our community.”

The general secretary of ISKCON Bangladesh said the group of cyber criminals also targeted other important spiritual media platforms including Mayapur TV, Jayapataka Swami Bangla and ISKCON Youth Forum Sylhet, causing widespread disruption.

Charu Chanda Das said, “We took immediate legal action, filed a General Diary (GD) with the Bangladesh Police and continuously communicated with the Cyber Crime Investigation Department, DMP, Dhaka. The Deputy Commissioner of Cyber Crime Investigation helped us to file a complaint against those responsible. “We have full confidence in their support and are waiting for speedy justice.”

General Secretary of ISKCON Bangladesh said, “They had once successfully recovered the ISKCON TV Dhaka page, but the attackers attacked again and took down the page. Despite this setback, Garuda Cyber Shield managed to restore the page and We are continuing our efforts to strengthen its security. I appeal to the Bangladesh Police and Cyber Crime Investigation Department to take immediate and decisive action against these criminals. Cyber harassment on religious platforms is a crime. The attacks should not be tolerated.”

Charu Chanda Das strongly criticized the Bangladeshi authorities for arresting Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who is also associated with ISKCON Bangladesh.

Chinmoy Krishna Das was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:30 pm on Monday.

The arrest came at a time when the interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has been accused of atrocities on the Hindu community of Bangladesh.

On Tuesday, he was produced before Chittagong’s sixth metropolitan magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam amid tight security. His bail plea was rejected and he was sent to jail.
