Andhra Pradesh: Death toll in train accident increases to 14
Vizianagaram. The death toll in the train accident between Kantakappally and Alamanda in Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday night has increased to 14.
District Collector Nagalakshmi said that the death toll in the accident has increased to 14 and 10 of them have been identified as Kanchubaraki Ravi, Gidijala Lakshmi, K Appala Naidu, Challa Satish, SMS Rao, Pilli Nagaraju, M Srinivas, Tenakala Sugunamma, Reddy Seetham. Naidu and Simhachalam. Efforts are being made to identify the other dead. While 32 injured have been admitted to Vizianagaram hospital, the condition of four is critical.
According to official sources, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the accident site and met the injured admitted in the hospital. Railway officials said that 11 bogies of 08532 Visakhapatnam-Palasa train have been taken to Alamanda station and nine bogies of 08504 Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train have been taken to Kantakappalli station.
Rescue and relief operations are in full swing with NDRF and SDRF personnel and all necessary equipment has been rushed to the accident site. Three bogies were badly damaged in the accident. The repair work of the tracks is being done on a war footing.
It is noteworthy that on Sunday evening, Visakhapatnam-Rayagada (08504) passenger train hit the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train from behind. In the accident, some coaches fell on the coaches of the goods train parked on the side track.
