The Central Government has approved the overall development of Agroha archaeological site and surrounding area through MoU as per Rakhigarhi model.

In this regard, Parveen Kumar Mishra, Director (Investigation and Excavation) of the Archaeological Survey of India, Investigation and Excavation Section of the Government of India has written a letter and given information.

In a letter written to the Special Secretary and Director of the Archeology and Museum Department of the Haryana Government, he said that the excavation of the Agroha archaeological site will be done jointly by the Excavation Branch-II of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Haryana State Archeology Department. Before starting the excavation, other surveys like GPR survey will be conducted in the potential areas. Haryana State Archeology Department will finance the GPR survey.

Regarding the excavation at the centrally protected site Agroha in Hisar district, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal met Union Culture Minister G. Wrote a letter to Kishan Reddy in the month of August. The Chief Minister had expressed the desire that the Haryana Government wants to highlight the archaeological heritage in the famous historical town of Agroha, Tehsil Adampur, District Hisar so that an important chapter is added to the cultural sector of the state.

He has also requested to initiate a project to convert this site into a grand heritage site in Haryana and establish an archaeological site museum and interpretation centre. The discovery of coins of Agroha district (republic) during excavations and the appearance of its ancient name Agradoka in ancient literature including Mahabharata are sufficient evidence of it being the headquarters of the republic.

The city of Agroha was situated on the ancient trade route between Taxila and Mathura and hence, it was the center of commerce and political activity until the new settlement of Firoz Shah Tughlaq (1351-88 AD) Hisar-e-Firoza (Hisar-1354 AD) came into existence. Remained an important center of activities. Earlier excavations have proven the potential of the site and have revealed five distinct cultural periods ranging from approximately the fourth century to the fourteenth century AD.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal, the state government is continuously working to develop archaeological sites. The government is working closely with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on issues like preserving the ancient civilization of Rakhigarhi and developing the site. The state government is also going to give a new look to the historical heritage Lohgarh. Although Haryana is a small state geographically, most of the things related to archeology are found here. Remains of Saraswati period civilization are also present at many places in Haryana. The government is making efforts to preserve and protect all these.
