Kolkata, 26 November (IANS). On the completion of 75 years of the adoption of the Indian Constitution, West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay introduced a bill in the Assembly. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders strongly opposed this bill.

Speaking to IANS on this matter, BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari said, “The resolution brought by our speaker on Constitution Day is completely politically motivated. The Speaker has abolished the dignity of his post. I will send this resolution to Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Chairperson and Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Speaker has also attacked constitutional institutions, such as the CBI, NIA and other central agencies. They have done all this as if it is a political attack.”

He further said, “The Speaker may be a political person, but his post is completely impartial and non-political. He destroyed the dignity of the post that a Speaker requires.”

Let us tell you that TMC leaders supported this bill brought by the Assembly Speaker and enumerated its benefits.

In support of the resolution, Trinamool Congress member and Minister of State Manas Bhunia said that Mamata Banerjee’s government has ensured that West Bengal becomes a state where people of all religions and sects live in peace and harmony.

Minister Firhad Hakim claimed that the right to religious freedom given in the Constitution is being restricted in some parts of the country. He said that this right has been fully implemented in West Bengal and it is fully effective here.

Hakim also said that the Waqf Amendment Bill is an insult to the right to religious freedom and is an attempt to end the age-old powers of the Waqf Board.

Along with this, Hakim raised questions on the effects of the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He claimed that insurgency and cross-border terrorism still continued there, and no concrete solution had been found.
