Australian Federal Police discussed women safety and violence eradication in Dhaka
Dhaka, 1 December (Hindustan Reporter) Australia has reiterated its commitment to gender equality and against all forms of gender-based violence in Bangladesh. In this sequence, Detective Superintendent Matt Craft and Detective Sergeant Scott Dixon of the Australian Federal Police visited Dhaka to mark the launch of a 16-day campaign against gender violence. During this, he discussed with Bangladesh Police the case related to the death of a Bangladeshi-Australian woman.
Detective Superintendent Matt Craft said the meetings with Bangladesh Police had been positive and useful. He expressed satisfaction that this meeting has become even more important after the recent renewal of the agreement on police cooperation between the two countries.
Australia’s Acting High Commissioner Nardia Simpson, Detective Superintendent Matt Craft and Detective Sergeant Scott Dixon attended the inaugural event of the 16-day campaign against gender violence in Dhaka. Here she met Sharmin S. Murshid, Advisor, Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, Government of Bangladesh and Mamtaaz Ahmed, Senior Secretary, NDC.
Acting High Commissioner Nardia Simpson said it was an important opportunity to explore the potential for enhanced cooperation between Bangladesh and Australia to combat gender-based violence. He called for a strong partnership between the two countries on this subject.
The Australian Government is continuously working towards gender equality and eliminating violence. Through this campaign in Bangladesh, both the countries have further strengthened their commitment towards this common objective.
