Imphal, December 2 (IANS). Taking precautionary measures, the Manipur government on Sunday extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services in nine districts, including the restive Jiribam district, by two days.

A senior Home Department official said that except for the incident of one person going missing from Kangpokpi district on November 25, no major incident has been reported from any of the nine districts since November 18, but as a precautionary measure, mobile The suspension of internet and data services has been extended for two more days.

Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar said in his order, “In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state, on the apprehension that some anti-social elements may be using social media to spread pictures, indecent language and hate video messages inciting the sentiments of the people.” “As a precautionary measure, the state government has imposed a temporary suspension of mobile internet and mobile data services.”

The suspension of mobile internet and data services in nine districts – Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Pherjawal – will be effective till 5.15 pm on December 3.

Following the recovery of bodies of three children and three women missing in Jiribam district on November 15 and 16, widespread violence at the houses and bungalows of ministers, MLAs and political leaders by mobs in the valley districts including Imphal East and Imphal West since November 16 After this, Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi had ordered suspension of mobile internet and data services in these districts for two days.

Since then, the suspension of mobile internet and data services has been extended from time to time for the last 17 days.

However, after a two-week shutdown, regular classes resumed from November 29 in all educational institutions, including schools and universities, in the six districts. Curfew restrictions were also relaxed in six violence-hit districts – Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching and Jiribam. However, as per the order of the District Magistrate, any gathering or rally still requires prior permission from the competent authorities.
