Bengaluru The long -awaited pink line of Namma Metro has crossed a significant stop. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started testing ‘Third Rail’ i.e. power supply system on the elevated section between Jayadeva and Tawrekere stations. Let us tell you that the target was to initially start the Pink Line in the year 2020. It was later postponed by December 2025, but now officials have made it clear that the line will be operational in 2026 in a phased manner. This metro line is 21.3 km long
The Pink Line is part of Phase-2 of Bangalore Metro, which is 21.3 km the total length. This Kalena will connect Agrahara (Bannarghatta Road) to Nagwara (Outer Ring Road), which will improve the city’s North-South connectivity. The line includes 13.8 km underground tunnel and 7.5 km elevated sections. The Pink Line will connect Kalena Agrahara in South Bengaluru to Nagwara located in the north, which will improve significantly in the connectivity of the north-south direction of the city.
Tunling became the biggest challenge
The most challenging part in the construction of the underground section of the metro was tunling. “Bangalore lands found strict rocks like granite and doleurite, which were extremely difficult to excavate. The most difficult section was a 2.2 km long tunnel between Shivajinagar to Vellara Junction, where there were frequent obstacles in work due to urban crowds and rigid rocks.
