Georgetown, November 21 (IANS). Leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming the voice of the Global South and putting the concerns of Caribbean countries on the world agenda.
At the second India-CARICOM Summit on Wednesday, PM Modi said that as the region and the Global South grapple with new global challenges, India will remain committed to providing continued help and support to the Caribbean countries. He said that India has always taken cognizance of global global concerns.
CARICOM Chairman Declan Mitchell said, “On behalf of all citizens of CARICOM, I extend our heartfelt thanks to PM Modi, the Government of India and the people of India for the active and influential role they have played in promoting the principles and aspirations of the Global South “
He further said, “In this complex and interconnected era of globalization, we appreciate India’s unwavering commitment to the sustainable development of our region.”
He told CARICOM leaders that Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to promoting international partnerships and his dedication to sustainable development has set an unparalleled example for all of us.
Referring to India’s delivery of Covid vaccines to CARICOM countries, he said, “This showed that even in its time of great need, India cared for its brothers and sisters in CARICOM.”
He said PM Modi’s “visionary leadership has been instrumental in strengthening relations between India and CARICOM.”
Michel said, “Our cooperation spans across a wide range of sectors, including trade, technology, healthcare, education and climate resilience, contributing to the sustainable development and prosperity of our regions’ and ‘India’s agriculture, energy “Expertise in critical areas such as health, human resource development and information and communication technology can help the sector.”
CARICOM summit host Guyana President Mohammed Irfan Ali told Prime Minister Modi that due to his “visionary leadership, India has become an influential voice in the international community, you are emerging as the voice of the global South.”
