China's Li Fabin won two gold medals
Phuket, April 3 (HS). China's Li Fabin moved closer to a berth in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with two golds and a new world record at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup here on Tuesday.
The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist won the gold medal in the men's 61kg category with a total lift of 312kg (166kg in clean and jerk and 146kg in snatch). He broke his own world record in snatch.
Lee won two golds in snatch. USA's Hampton Morris (176 kg) topped the clean and jerk with a new world record. Hampton finished second with a total of 302 kg (snatch 127 and clean and jerk 176 kg).
Li was facing Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Shen Lijun in the men's 61kg. But Shane failed all three of his attempts in the snatch and was eliminated from the competition.
Shen had to lose a lot of weight to compete in the men's 61 kg competition, Li was quoted as saying by Xinhua after the competition. I know how difficult it is. But I can't afford to lose and I have to try my best.
The IWF World Cup in Phuket runs until April 11 and will act as a qualifying event for Paris 2024.
