The effect of Cyclone Fungal is being seen in different parts of India. Due to this, there are chances of heavy rain in some areas. In Tamil Nadu and Puducherry too, schools have been closed after issuing a warning. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Cyclone Fungal is currently intensifying in the Bay of Bengal. Due to which there will be heavy rain with strong wind in the next 48 hours. Flood warning has also been issued in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. Puducherry Home Minister A. Namasivayam has declared holiday for the next two days in all the schools here.

Chennai Regional Meteorological Center Director S Balachandran said that a high pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal. Also the cyclone is about 310 km south east of Nagapattinam, 410 km south east of Puducherry and 480 km from Chennai. At the same time, people living in low-lying and coastal areas in Tamil Nadu have been asked to follow safety norms.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Cyclone Fungal will move approximately north-northwest along the Sri Lankan coast. It will turn into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. So around the morning of November 30, it will cross the northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram as a high pressure area. During this period, there is a possibility of wind blowing at a speed of 50-60 to 70 kilometers per hour.

Chance of heavy to very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in some parts of Tamil Nadu on 29 and 30 November. In which there is a possibility of heavy rain in Southern Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on 29 November.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Mahe and South Karnataka as well as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 30 and December 1. ISRO is monitoring the situation since November 23. Navy, HADR and SAR teams are deployed to help the people. NDRF said its team inspected sensitive and low-lying areas in TR Pattanam, Karaikal and discussed risk assessment and safety measures with officials.
