Subbanna Ayyappan, former Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research i.e. ICAR and awarded the Padma Shri Award, was found dead in the Kaveri River near Srirangapatna. According to information received from the police, on Saturday, his body was found flowing into the water, after which he was taken out. Police said that he often meditated at the Saibaba Ashram located on the banks of the Kaveri River in Srirangapatna. According to the police, their two -wheelers were found to be on the banks of the river and suspect that they may have jumped into the river. However, the police said that the cause of their death would be known only by investigation.

Explain that 70-year-old Ayyappan was an agriculture and fisheries (aquatic agriculture) scientist and was the first non-crop scientist to lead the ICAR. Ayyappan was a resident of Vishveshwar Nagar Industrial Area in Mysore. He was missing since May 7, his family lodged a complaint at the Vidyaranyapuram police station in Mysore that he had gone missing on 7 May. Ayyappan, who played an important role in India’s ‘Nili Kranti’, has his wife and two daughters.

Work done in these cities including Delhi

Agriculture and fisheries scientist Ayyappan has worked in many cities. These include cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru. Ayyappan was the first person who was not an agricultural scientist, yet he led this institution, which was a very big thing.

Padma Shri was honored in 2022

Ayyappan was given the Padma Shri in 2022. He was also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Central Registration, Imphal. He worked in ICAR till 2016. During this period, he was also awarded the Rajyotsav Award in 2013. He was born on 10 December 1955 in Chamarajanagar district.
