New Delhi: A former driver of a south Delhi-based businessman allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from him and threatened that his daughter’s wedding will be turned into a mourning if he doesn’t fulfill his demand. The accused in an extortion letter to the businessman asked him to write ‘Yes’ on the boundary wall of the house, as the sign of consent of giving them the money, police said. The Delhi Police arrested the former driver and his accomplice in connection with the matter. The accused have been identified as Pushpendra Kumar (former driver), 34, and Deepak (32) from south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area.
Why ex-driver threatened businessman?
The accused earlier used to work for the the businessman as his driver but was later removed from the job as the family did not like his work. Angered by this, Kumar decided to take revenge from his former employer. He hatched a conspiracy along with his Deepak, who is a plumber by profession and lives in his neighbourhood, to extort Rs 10 lakh from the businessman, a police officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The former driver knew that the businessman’s daughter was set to get married on October 28. He sent Deepak to his house with the letter two days before the wedding. Deepak handed over the letter to the gate-man of the businessman asking him to pass it to his employer.
After receiving the letter, the businessman got scared and lodged a complaint with the police. “The accused demanded Rs 10 lakh, otherwise the marriage will be converted into a mourning,” said an officer.
