The main accused in the murder of Delhi Police Constable Kiran Pal, identified as Rocky, was killed in an encounter after opening fire on police in Sangam Vihar. Rocky, linked to the brutal stabbing of the constable, was injured during the shootout and later died in the hospital.

New Delhi: The main accused in murder of Delhi Police Constable Kiran Pal was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Delhi Police and Special Cell. The accused, identified as Raghav alias Rocky, was shot during a confrontation with the police late last night.

Authorities received information about Rocky’s whereabouts in Sangam Vihar late on November 23. Acting on the tip, a joint team comprising the Special Cell, Narcotics Cell, and South East District police was dispatched to the area near Surajkund Road.

When the police located Rocky, they instructed him to surrender. However, he reportedly opened fire at the police from close range. The officers retaliated in self-defence, injuring Rocky. He was immediately rushed to ESIC Hospital in Okhla, where he succumbed to his injuries. A .32 bore pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the encounter site, according to the police.

Murder of Kiran Pal

The incident traces back to November 23. Constables Kiran Pal, Banai Singh, and Sunil were stationed at a police booth near Arya Samaj Mandir in Govindpuri. Around 4.45 am, constable Sunil stepped out for official work. Upon returning, he found Constable Kiran Pal missing.

Body of constable Kiran Pal was found in Lane 13 near Govindpuri. He had been stabbed and was lying unconscious. The injured constable was rushed to Majeedia Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.

Investigation and arrests

Initial investigations by the South East District police and the Crime Branch led to the arrest of two suspects, Krish and Deepak. During their interrogation, they revealed the involvement of Rocky in the crime.

Delhi Police stated that Rocky was identified as the prime suspect in the case and was tracked down in a swift operation. “Close to midnight, the suspect was identified and was asked to surrender. However, he opened fire on the police team. In self-defence, the police retaliated, injuring the suspect. He was later declared dead at the hospital,” the statement read. The police recovered the weapon used by Rocky and believe it may have been involved in other crimes.
