A case was filed and the mother and other relatives of the child were summoned for questioning, according to Delhi Police. During the gruelling interrogation, the mother broke down and confessed to strangling her own daughter, the police added.

She broke down during interrogation

After more questioning, the police learnt that after her first husband abandoned her, the woman met and befriended a man named Rahul on Instagram. After this, the woman decided to move to Delhi to marry her Instagram friend. But the man and his family declined from accepting the child, and the marriage. As the woman was frustrated with the rejection, she strangled her child, the police said.

Her child was “sexually assaulted” by a relative

During interrogation, the woman said that before moving to Delhi, she was living at a relative’s place along with her child in Himachal Pradesh. There, her child was sexually assaulted by the relative, she claimed.

A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 103 (punishment for murder), 65(2) (punishment for rape in certain cases) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) at the Ashok Vihar police station.
