New Delhi/Chennai. Today is a dangerous day for 7 states of the country, because the cyclonic storm Fangal in the Bay of Bengal is causing devastation. Today the storm will hit the coastline in Karaikal in Puducherry and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. Before this, the storm is wreaking havoc in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Due to the impact of the storm, strong winds are blowing in both the states. There is a situation of waterlogging due to heavy rains. Flights have been cancelled. Chennai airport is closed and train services are also at a standstill. Schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are closed.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Andaman Nicobar Islands, because as soon as the storm hits, winds will blow at a speed of about 100 kilometers per hour and there will be heavy to very heavy rains. . Let us tell you that this is the second storm to affect India after the end of the monsoon season. Earlier, in the last days of October, cyclonic storm Dana had come, which caused devastation in Odisha and Maharashtra.
Preparations to deal with the storm
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry governments have ordered closure of schools and colleges on November 30 in view of the alert from the Meteorological Department. Relief camps have been set up across the state. Schools and colleges will remain closed in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts. There will be no exams nor any coaching classes in these cities. The Tamil Nadu government has suspended public transport services on major roads including East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road from the afternoon of 30 November. The roads which pass close to the beach will remain temporarily closed.
The government has advised IT companies to allow their employees to work from home on November 30, so that people can be saved from any kind of loss due to the arrival of Cyclone Fangal. The Tamil Nadu Revenue and Disaster Management Department has set up 2,229 relief camps across the state. So far, 471 people from 164 families have been kept in relief centers in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts. Local authorities have also deployed essential equipment including motor pumps, generators and boats in Chennai, Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai in anticipation of possible floods.
