Developed India is being built under the guidance of the Constitution: Modi
New Delhi. Describing the Constitution as a guide for the present and future, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that his government is building a developed India according to its basic spirit.
Addressing a function organized by the Supreme Court on the occasion of Constitution Day, Modi said that our Constitution is the guide of our present and our future. Today every countryman has only one goal – to build a developed India. The government is continuously working in this direction. He said that developed India means improvement in the lives of all the countrymen and respect for everyone’s life and this is the objective of the Constitution.
Discussing the achievements of his tenure, he said that bank accounts of 53 crore people were opened, who had not got this facility since independence. In the last 10 years, permanent houses were given to four crore people who were forced to live under the open sky. Similarly, 10 crore women were given free LPG gas connections.
Modi said that in the last five-six years, arrangements were made to provide tap water to more than 12 crore people. Before independence, only three crore people had access to tap water.
The Prime Minister said that many types of facilities were made available for disabled and transgender people. This government has made arrangements for free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to more than 1.5 crore senior citizens, while all elderly people above 70 years of age are being given free treatment.
He said that now medicines are available for everyone with a discount of up to 80 percent. 100% vaccination is being done in the entire country. The pace of development has been accelerated in backward districts. He said that 2.5 crore houses were given free electricity connections. For the first time after independence, a land bank was arranged in which documents related to land were made available.
Modi said that the government is continuously making efforts to provide justice to the people as per the basic spirit of the Constitution. The Prime Minister said that the makers of our Constitution knew that India’s aspirations and India’s dreams would reach new heights with time. He knew that the needs of independent India and the citizens of India would change, the challenges would change.
Therefore, he did not leave our Constitution merely a book of law, but made it a living, continuously flowing stream. The Prime Minister said that changes are being made as per the spirit of the Constitution and common citizens are getting its benefits. He said that the new judicial code has been implemented to ensure that Indians get speedy justice. It has changed into a punishment based system and a justice based system.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister mentioned the terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008 and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in it. Modi warned that India is ready to deal with terrorist organizations or any of its forms with force and will give a befitting reply.
Modi limited his speech only to the works and plans of his government and while concluding the speech, he said in a humorous tone that I limited myself to the work of the government while following the dignity of the Constitution.
On this occasion, Chief Justice of Supreme Court Sanjiv Khanna, Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, President of Supreme Court Bar Association Kapil Sibal, President of Bar Council of India Manan Kumar Mishra, Attorney General R Venkataramani, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Many dignitaries were present, including several sitting and former judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
