Disease like China will not come to India: Health experts

Amidst growing concerns over pneumonia spreading in China, doctors say that there has been no case of spread of respiratory diseases in India. However, some hospitals claimed that the number of adults getting vaccinated to prevent pneumonia during the winter season is increasing.

There has been a recent increase in respiratory diseases in the northern areas of China. Cases of pneumonia, novel avian influenza (H9N2), flu and COVID-19 have increased there, especially among children. In view of this, the Central Government has issued guidelines to the health departments of states and districts to monitor influenza and serious respiratory diseases.

Dr. Rakesh Lodha, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Delhi, said that there is no need to worry. The cases that have come to light are normal in this season.

Dr. Poonam Sidhana, Director of the Neonatal and Pediatric Department of CK Birla Hospital, says that we have not yet seen a rise in respiratory diseases in India. People are already taking precautions here due to pollution. Fever and respiratory diseases usually show their effect at the beginning of winter in the country. During this period, the number of people getting vaccinated to prevent pneumonia and flu increases.

Dr. Salil S., Director, Department of Pulmonology, Nanavati Max Super Specialty Hospital, Mumbai. Bendre also says the same thing. He says that due to awareness the number of adults taking the vaccine is increasing in India.

Dr. Krishna Chugh, Head and Director of the Department of Pediatrics at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, said that the number of people taking the vaccine to prevent pneumonia has increased, but it is still not as much as it should be.
