left studies due to poverty

Born in a poor family of Nagalapuram in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, Prem Ganapathy wanted to study but his dream remained alive only till 10th class. Worrying about his family, which was hit hard by poverty, his dream of studying was stifled.

To feed his parents and seven siblings, Prem had to leave his studies and go in search of earning. At an early age, he started going to work in shops instead of going to school.

Came to Mumbai in search of work

Prem Ganpati had come to Mumbai with a friend. The friend had promised Prem a job worth Rs 1200, but the same friend cheated him and took away his money at Bandra Railway Station. The problem with Prem was that he did not know anyone here and he was also unfamiliar with the language of Mumbai. Under compulsion, this person had to work at a dhaba, because there was no question of going back home.

Washes utensils on salary of Rs 150

Now he had to earn his living somehow, that is why he started working in a bakery in Mahim the very next day. Here he had to wash utensils, for which it was decided that he would get Rs 150 per month.

Being from Tamil Nadu proved to be a boon for Prem because because of this he was fond of making dosa and this hobby later became the reason for his success.

Dosa Plaza was born

In 1997, he rented a shop for Rs 5000 per month and employed 2 people. The name of his shop was – Prem Sagar Dosa Plaza. Many students used to come to his shop, Prem became good friends with them.

Prem learned how to operate a laptop from these students and learned many dosa recipes on the internet. Soon Prem served 20 types of dosas to his customers.

By 2002, the monthly turnover of Dosa Plaza reached Rs 10 lakh.

By 2005, Prem had launched 104 types of dosas and he has trademarks for 27 dosas. Today they have 45 outlets across India. Today they also have 5 outlets in Australia and New Zealand.
