New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for the release of Dunki on 21st December, 2023. If everything goes well for the megastar, this would mark his third blockbuster in a year. The excitement and buzz around the film is palpable, new reports suggest that it was made on a reported cost of Rs 85 crore, making it one of the least expensive SRK films in recent years.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki made only on a budget of Rs 85 crore?
As per a report in Pinkvilla, Dunki was made on a budget of Rs 85 crore, citing director Rajkumar Hirani as a ‘cautious spender’ in the ordeal. However, this excludes the cost of talent including Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and others.
The report added that SRK and Hirani are profit participants in the deal and the cost of Dunki after the print and marketing budget was around Rs 120 crore. The film was shot in a period of 75 days, with Shah Rukh Khan being a part of the schedule for 60 days.
Dunki makes Rs 100 crore before release
According to the report, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki has already made a profit of Rs 100 crore before the film’s release.
The ‘non-theatrical rights’ of SRK starrer were reportedly sold in the ‘range of Jawan’ and as a result, it is already sitting on ‘a massive table profit in the vicinity of Rs 100 crore.’

‘In comparison with Jawan’
Shah Rukh Khan’s last film, Jawan was also produced by his company Red Chillies Entertainment. The film was made on a budget of Rs 300 crore which reportedly exceeded during the filming process.
At Jawan’s success meet, director Atlee said that the actor greenlit the budget but they ‘went a little more’. On a positive side, the film became an all time blockbuster and broke several box office records.
Jawan also became the second biggest global Hindi grosser worldwide after Aamir Khan’s Dangal. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the lifetime box office collection for the film stands at Rs 1160 crore worldwide and Rs 640.25 crore in India for all languages.
Dunki
Rajkumar Hirani announced Dunki in April 2022. The film marks his first collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan. The film is based on the ‘Donkey’ route and focuses on the illegal immigration of Indians abroad.
The trailer or Dunki Drop 1 was released on SRK’s 58th birthday on 2nd November, 2023. The film is slated to hit the theatres on 21st December, 2021 and will clash with Prabhas’ Salaar.
