Two Private organizations have claimed in their report that Meta, the company that owns the world’s largest website Facebook and social sharing application Instagram, had given approval to run advertisements giving hate speeches against Muslims and killing Muslims. .
British newspaper The Guardian According to India Civil Watch International (ICIW) and Echo, India gave Meta 22 ads to be tested, of which the company initially approved 14 ads and later approved three more ads. Both organizations knowingly produced advertisements that included content promoting Hindu supremacy, including hatred against Muslims, lynching, etc.
Both companies used Meta’s own tools to create hate ads in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali and Kannada. Both companies also made an advertisement in which an anti-Bharti Janata Party (BJP) politician made a statement about killing Hindus while holding a Pakistani flag, and that too was given the green signal by Meta.
Apart from this, in the advertisements that were approved, Muslims were compared to insects and Hindus were instigated to burn them, while one advertisement called for Muslims to be attacked and captured. There was also talk of burning and killing them. According to the Guardian, the advertisements read, “Let’s burn this vermin” and “Hindus are bleeding, these invaders must be burnt”,
Both agencies claimed in their report that when they placed ads on Meta after the first phase of the Indian general elections began, the company approved them, but both agencies removed the ads before they could run, as the agencies’ motive was Wanted to know about meta.
After Meta’s approval of anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistani advertisements came to light, questions were raised about the company’s policy and rumors surfaced that Meta’s system could not detect hate content.
