Festival of tunes celebrated in Sangeetdhani Gwalior
– Music festivals organized at 15 places simultaneously in Purvarang program series
Gwalior, 22 December (HS). The atmosphere of the music capital Gwalior was fragrant with the sweet accompaniment of Sur-Saaz on Friday evening. The occasion was the “Tansen Sangeet Mehfilo” organized together in the music city of Gwalior in a series of pre-color programs under the World Music Conference Tansen Samaroh. When special musical gatherings were organized at fifteen places in the city, it seemed as if the festival of music came true. In these meetings, senior and budding artists of the city played such tunes that the cold evening of December felt warm after coming in contact with the tunes. This was the first time in the history of Tansen Samaroh, when such a large number of musical gatherings took place simultaneously in the city of notes.
Maharaj Bada resounded with melodious singing
The meeting started with the singing of Hemang Kolharkar in the “Tansen Sangeet Mehfil” decorated in the town hall located at Maharaj Bada, the heart of the city. He gave a singing performance in the raga “Pooriya Dhanashree”. The lyrics of the delayed bandish composed in one rhythm were – 'Laagi Mori Lagan'. In the three taals presented by him, the lyrics of Madhyalay's bandish were – 'Why now you have come.' He was accompanied by Manish Karwade on tabla and Dr. Anup Moghe on harmonium. The second artist of this gathering was the country's leading Hawaiian guitarist Pt. Sunil Pavagi. He presented his playing in Raag 'Dhaani'. Starting with Aalap, Jod, Jhala, he introduced two gaitas in this raga. The delayed speed was fixed in Jhaptaal and the fast speed was composed in three taals. He concluded the recital with the tune of his Bhairavi. Dr. Vinay Vinde accompanied him on the tabla.
Water waves arose in Baijatal due to singing and playing
The “Tansen Sangeet Mehfil” organized on Baijatal featured Dhrupad singing by rising singer Sudeep Bhadauria and melodious playing by Rajendra Vishwaroop. Sudeep presented his singing in Raga Yaman. Rasikas were mesmerized by his singing and at one point it seemed as if waves were rising in the water of Baijatal. After Aalap, Madhyalay, Aalap, Drutalaya Aalap, he presented Bandish composed in Dhamar, the lyrics of which were – 'Kesar Rang Ghor Ke Bano Hai'. The second bandish – Ganpati Ganesh – was fixed in Jalad Sultal. Pandit Sanjay Pant Agle accompanied him on Pakhawaj. Saket Kumar and Yukta Singh Tomar accompanied on Tanpura. In the second presentation, senior artist Rajendra Vishwaroop presented a melodious Surbahar recital. Starting from Aalap Jod, Jhala in Raj Kalyani, he presented a Gaat in Chautal. His playing was full of solemnity and sweetness. Pt. Sanjay Pant Agle accompanied in the recital.
The sound waves echoed even on the fort.
The musical gathering of “Tansen Sangeet Mehfil” organized at Gwalior Fort started with the singing of Meera Vaishnav. He introduced two Bandishes in Raga Puriya Kalyan. The lyrics of the delayed bandish in one taal were hovan lagi saanjh while the lyrics of the bandish in the middle layer teentaal were deh badoo din passe. You also presented a tune. After this, a melodious sarangi playing by Mr. Salman Khan was also held in the same meeting. Navneet Kaushal on harmonium and Shahrukh Khan accompanied on tabla in these performances.
There was music in Gangadas's school also.
Under the Tansen Sangeet Mahafil, there was music in Gangadasji's Big Shala – Siddhpeeth Gangadasji's Big Shala. The meeting started with the playing of well-known sitar player Pt. Bharat Nayak. He performed in Raga Puriya Kalyan. Starting with Aalap, Jod Jhala, he presented delayed and rapid gaits in three taals. Finally the performance ended with a tune. The second artist of the gathering was senior singer Pt. Mahesh Dutt Pandey. He presented his singing in Raga Maru Vihaag. In one taal, the lyrics of the delayed bandish were – 'Bhanak Pari hai kanane mere', while in three taal, the lyrics of the middle bandish were – 'Kaahu ke man ko..'. Taking the singing forward with Raga Rasaranjani, you presented a Bandish in Madhyalay, Teen Taal in this Raga, the lyrics of which were – 'Kaise Kate Ye Rain'. He concluded the singing with a hymn. Pt. Anant Masurkar on tabla and Sanjay Devale on harmonium demonstrated a well-organized accompaniment.
The tunes of Raga Madhuvanti scattered in Jaivilas Palace
Pt. Shriram Umdekar's sitar playing and Pt. Umesh Kampuwale's Khayal singing took place in the Tansen Sangeet Mahafil organized at Jaivilas Palace. The meeting started with the singing of Pandit Umesh Kampuwale. He presented his singing in Raga Madhuvanti. He introduced two bandhis in this raga. The lyrics of the delayed bandish composed in one taal were – 'Piya Ghar Nahi', whereas the lyrics of the fast bandish composed in three taals were – 'Tumhare Daras bin Balma'. You also presented tarana in this raga. After this, you also presented the hymn written by Mahadji Scindia – 'Ari Girdhar Sau Kaun Lari' and the praise written on Madhavrao I. He concluded the singing with Marathi Abhang. You were accompanied by Pandurag Tailang on tabla and Akshat Mishra on harmonium. In the next presentation, Pt. Shriram Umdekar played sitar. He presented his recital in Raga Charukeshi. Starting with Aalap, Jod, he introduced two Gaats in Matta and Teen Taal respectively. Shri Kunal Masurkar accompanied you on the tabla.
The tunes of Dhrupad echoed in Hassu-Haddu Khan Auditorium.
Tejas Bhate presented Dhrupad singing in the Tansen Sangeet Mahafil of Hassu Khan Haddu Auditorium. Started with Aalap, Madhyalay Aalap and Drut Lay Aalap. He presented Dhamar in raga singing. The words of Bandish were – 'Kesar Ghor ke bano hai'. He also presented a Bandish in Jalad Sultal, the words were – 'Ganpati Ganesh. It was here that the second presentation of Padmaja Vishwaroop's strange veena playing took place. He started with Aalap, Jod, Jhala in Raga Chalanat and played a Gaat in Attika taal. Sanjay Afley accompanied Pakhawaj in these presentations.
Dwarkadhish temple resonates with Khayal singing
The meeting of Dwarkadhish Temple Murar started with the sitar playing of Manoj Naik. He performed in Raga Puriya Dhanashree. He presented delayed and fast compositions in three rhythms in Khayal Ang. He ended the recital with a jhala. Pranab Paradkar accompanied you on tabla. The other artist of this group was Anant Mahajani ji. He sang two bandishes in Raaga Maru Vihaag. The delayed bandish was composed in one taal, the lyrics were – 'Bhanak Pari Hai Kanan', whereas the lyrics of the fast bandish in three taal were – 'Jaagoon main saari raina'. He also presented a bandish in Raga Tilak Kamod and the bhajan – 'Raghuvar Tumko Meri. Ended the singing with 'Laaj'. Avinash Mahajani accompanied you on tabla and Shubham Bahadur on harmonium.
Tansen Music College also became Dhrupadmay
Yogini Tambe mesmerized everyone with her presentation of Dhrupad singing at Tansen Music College. The ups and downs in his singing were worth listening to. Jagat Narayan Sharma gave a brilliant presentation of Chautal on Pakhawaj.
“Naam Niranjan Gao” at Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University.
Gwalior's senior music scholar Vidushi Sadhna Gore sang and Sanjay Rathore played tabla in the Tansen gathering organized at Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University. The meeting started with Sanjay Rathore's tabla playing. He presented his music in three rhythms. In this, he presented Lykari Tripli Dukdas in fast rhythm and concluded by playing Laggi. Vivek Jain accompanied him on harmonium. Sadhna Gore sang in the second presentation. He presented his singing in Raga Shuddha Sarang. In one taal, the lyrics of the delayed bandish were – 'Naam Niranjan Gaavo', while in three taals, the lyrics of the Madhyalay composition were – 'Tu hai nirakar.' Taking the singing forward, Sadhna presented Dadra in Mishra Shivranjani. The lyrics were- You concluded the singing of 'Chhai Ghata Ghanghor' with Meera's bhajan 'Bhaj Le Re Man' based on Raga Patdeep. Dr. Vinay Vinde accompanied you on tabla and Vivek Jain on harmonium.
Gunji Bhairavi at Shankar Gandharva Music College
Ankur Dharkar's violin playing and Dr. Ishwarchandra Karkare's singing took place in the music festival held at Shankar Gandharva Music College. Inaugurating the gathering, Ankur Dharkar presented his recital in Raga Yaman. He presented three compositions. All the three compositions of late, middle and fast rhythm were composed in three rhythms. His playing of the singing organ was full of melody. Dr. Vinay Vinde accompanied you on tabla. In the next presentation, Dr. Ishwarchandra Ramchandra presented three bandishes in Raga Puriya Dhanashree. The lyrics of the delayed bandish composed in one rhythm were – 'Ae Bali-Bali Jaon. The lyrics of the Bandish in Adha Teen Taal were – Mohe Lagi Lagan Guru Charanan Ki, and the Bandish in Drut Teen Taal was – Payaliya Jhankar. He sang all the three Bandishes with complete skill. The singing ended with the bhajan 'Main Tore Daavan Va' in special Bhairavi of Gwalior Gharana. He was accompanied by Sanjay Rathore on tabla and Mukesh Pal on samadini.

The concert organized at Government Madhav Music College under the Tansen Sangeet Mahafil started with the sitar playing of Janab Rashid Khan. He introduced playing in Raga Yaman. Starting from Aalap Jod, he presented both Lahitya and Drut Gaats in three taals. Rahees Khan accompanied you on the tabla. The second artiste of the gathering was Dr. Veena Joshi. He presented his singing in Raag Puriya Dhanashree. He presented two restrictions. The lyrics of the bandish composed in one taal were – 'Ab to rut maan'. Whereas the lyrics of the bandish of Madhyalay in three taals were – 'Pailaiya Jhankar..'. He concluded the singing with Ram Bhajan. Sajag Mathur on tabla and Narayan Kate on harmonium accompanied you.
Dhinak of Nathdwara tradition in Tansen Art Gallery
The meeting started with Jaywant Gaikwad's Pakhawaj playing at Tansen Art Gallery. He presented his instrument in Chautal. Starting with Ganesh Paran, you concluded the Nathdwara tradition with Dhinnak's instrument Farmaishi Paran and playing Rela. Vivek Jain accompanied you on harmonium. In this meeting Prof. Ranjana Tonpe presented her singing.
Tabla playing by the youngest artist Vedanta stole the show in Dutt temple.
Prajjwal Shirke and Vedant Vipat gave musical performances in the music festival organized in Dutt Temple. The meeting started with a solo tabla recital by Vedanta Vipat. It would be pertinent to mention that Vedanta is the youngest artiste to perform in all the meetings held. He introduced tabla playing in three talas. Starting from Peshkar, he presented Kayad, Rele, Gat Paran and Tihayan. Along with him, Shashank Shivhare sang a song on harmonium. Vedant has received the education of Tabla from his father Vikas Vipat. In the same meeting, Prajwal Shirke performed in Raag Puriya Dhanashree. He presented two restrictions. The lyrics of the delayed bandish of one taal were – 'Tan man baru' whereas the lyrics of the fast bandish of three taal were – 'Aana ve mil jaan ve'. He was accompanied by Lokendra Shirke on tabla and Shashank Shivhare on harmonium.
Echo of Raga 'Puriya Kalyan' in Tourism Institute
Young singer Yash Devale sang in the Tansen Sangeet Mahafil organized at the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management. He recited Bandishes in Raga Puriya Kalyan. In the same meeting, Avinash Rajawat presented three beats in solo tabla playing.
Singing in Raga 'Madhuvanti' in Lakshminarayan Temple
The musical gathering organized at Lakshminarayan Temple under Tansen Sangeet Mahafil started with the singing of Shivang Dubey. Starting his singing with Raga Madhuvanti, he introduced two Bandishes in this Raga. In one taal, the lyrics of the delayed bandish were – 'Piya Ghar Nahi', whereas in three taal, the lyrics of the fast bandish were – 'Tumhare Daras Bin'. In the same raga, you presented the tarana and concluded with the bhajan. Anunay Sharma accompanied you on tabla and Satyam Pathak accompanied you on harmonium. In the same meeting, Pt. Subhash Deshpande gave a violin recital. He presented his playing in Raga Maru Vihaag and presented compositions of delayed, middle and fast rhythm in one taal and three taal respectively. Yogesh Sharma accompanied you on the tabla.
