Good news has emerged for cricket fans around the world. Cricket Australia has announced the schedule of 2025-26 Big Bash League (BBL). The new season will begin on December 14 in Perth, in which the defending champion Perth Scorcors will face Sydney Sixers in the first match of the season.

BBL’s program this year’s program is a bit rare, as Australia’s Test players will have a two -week uninterrupted time to participate in BBL before the third Ashes Test starting in Adelaide on 17 December. The regular season of 40 matches will start from December 14 and will run from January 25, followed by qualifiers and finals from 20 to 25 January.

The tournament will conclude on 25 January Sunday night, which will be on 26 January just before the public holiday of Australia Day. The fifth Ashes Test to be held in Sydney from 4 to 8 January will be another chance for Australian Test players to play in the league. This 10-day round within the BBL schedule can give a chance to participate in particularly select batsmen, while the bowlers and all-rounders can use it as a preparation before the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup in February.

Speaking about the upcoming season, BBL League chief Alastair Dobson said, “We had identified this season some time ago. Whatever we do during international summer is very big. But then a good, clear round of nights from mid -December to the end of December, where we can play BBL every night, we have a very strong season for us every night.”

Speaking further, he said, “Essentially, at other times, there are things that do not allow it, whether it is a different schedule of Test matches, whether it is the content of the Australian team at the end of summer, which can limit the potential availability of some of our Test players and Australian players. So this year all these things assure us that these are the best years till now.”
