Governor approves Tamil Nadu government bills
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has approved 2 bills passed by the government. From these, more than 12,000 disabled people will get the right to enroll in urban and local bodies. These bills were pending in the Raj Bhavan for a long time.
On this decision of the Governor, Chief Minister MK Stalin said- This approval was to be received. The governor feared that if the bills were stopped again, we would go to the Supreme Court.
On 8 April, the Supreme Court had set a limit to the authority of the Governor on the matter of Tamil Nadu Governor and the State Government. The bench had said- the governor has no veto power. At the same time, 10 essential bills of the government were stopped by the Governor as illegal.
The court had said that this is an arbitrary step and is not correct from the perspective of law. The Governor should have given help and advice to the state assembly. Ordered that the Governor should take steps on the bill passing from the assembly within a month.
The Supreme Court had a hearing on the petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government. It was said that Governor RN Ravi has stopped the necessary bills of the state. Explain that former IPS officer RN Ravi, who has worked in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), took over as the Governor of Tamil Nadu in 2021.
The Supreme Court gave 2 instructions to the Governor
- The Supreme Court directed the Governor that he would have to use his options within the stipulated time, otherwise his steps will be reviewed legal.
- The court said that the Governor should stop the bill or send it to the President, they will have to do this work within a month with the advice of the Council of Ministers. If the assembly re -passes the bill, then the Governor will have to approve within a month.
The court made it clear that it was not weakening the powers of the Governor, but all the action of the Governor should be according to the principles of parliamentary democracy.
