IAS Deepak Rawat grew up in the same city of Mussoorie in Uttarakhand. Where every UPSC aspirant dreams of reaching. Born on 24 September 1977, Deepak Rawat did his schooling from St. George’s College, Mussoorie. After this he did BA from Hansraj College, Delhi University and MA in History from JNU. He has also done MPhil in Ancient History from JNU. Deepak Rawat had a unique hobby of collecting old watches, empty polish boxes and used toothbrushes in his childhood.

While studying in college in Delhi, Deepak Rawat started preparing for UPSC exam with his batchmates. Then he kept journalism as a backup career option.

Worked on a monthly salary of Rs 8000

When Deepak (Deepak Rawat) was 24 years old, his father stopped his pocket money. Then after succeeding in JRF exam, he started his first job at a monthly salary of Rs 8000. IPS Anil Kumar Raturi lived in the neighborhood of Deepak Rawat in Mussoorie. It was from him that Deepak came to know about the UPSC exam.

Along with working, he (Deepak Rawat) also started preparing for UPSC exam. However, after failing in the first two attempts, he succeeded in the third attempt. Now he is working as District Magistrate in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
