Honeymoon massacre: Mangalsutra solved the murder of King Raghuvanshi

Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Eye Nongrang said on Wednesday that the arrest of his wife Sonam (25) in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi (29) of Indore and the mangalsutra and ring found in the suitcase gave the investigators important to solve the honeymoon murder. Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh on 9 June, after which the police also arrested three killers taken on the merits for the murder of her lover Raj Kushwaha and Raja.
Reached Meghalaya on 20 May
Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi were married on 11 May in Indore and on May 20, they reached Meghalaya via Guwahati, Assam for a honeymoon. The two went missing on May 23 in Nongriyat village in Sohra in East Khasi Hills district a few hours after leaving a ‘Homestay’.
King’s body found on 2 June
The king’s body was found in a valley near Weisadong Falls in Meghalaya on 2 June. At the same time, the search for Sonam continued. Sonam surrendered at Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, about 1,200 km on the morning of 9 June, as the police arrested three killers taken on the merits for the murder of her lover Raj Kushwaha and Raja.
Mangalasutra and ring from suitcase
DGP Nongrang said, “We recovered Sonam’s mangalsutra and ring from the suitcase that the couple left in a ‘Homestay’ of Sohra. We found a clue to monitor him as a suspect in this case due to the married woman leaving these jewelery.”
The suitcase was left in homestay
Another police officer, who was part of the investigation, said that Raja and Sonam had not already booked in the ‘Homestay’ of Sohra on 22 May, due to which they did not find any room there. The official said that the couple had difficulty in climbing more than 3,000 stairs to Nongriyat village to see the ‘Double Decker Route Bridge’, so they decided to keep their suitcase in ‘Homestay’. He said that the couple’s suitcase was in Sohra’s ‘Homestay’, but he spent the night in a ‘Homestay’ of Nongriyat and left on 23 May.
The killer took place near Weisadong Falls
The official said that he came back to Sohra, took his scooter from the parking lot and went to the Visadong waterfall, where the king was murdered by three attackers in front of his wife.
