In a recent interview with Zoom, Imtiaz told what was the response of Chamkila's family regarding the film Amar Singh Chamkila. He said- Chamkila's entire family was present at the screening. His first wife was also Gurmel Kaur. Chamkila and Amarjot's son Jaiman were also present. Apart from these people, Chamkila's daughters were also present.

Imtiaz has also given credit to Chamkila's family for this film as they did not interfere in anything. He said- I did not show Chamkila's character in a clean manner because that was the purpose of the film. He had done many things which could be judged. But I left it as it is in the film. All this was possible only with the support of Chamkila's family. The family knew that all these things had really happened so they did not stop me in any way.

The film is based on a real story

Famous folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila became popular with his different songs. He was involved in controversies many times due to the lyrics of his songs. Many famous singers have also sung the songs written by him.

On March 8, 1988, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were shot dead. Two other members of his band were also killed along with him. Till date the real reason for his murder has not been revealed.
