India-France together can expand agriculture and food processing: Goyal
New Delhi, 27 November (HS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said India and France together can expand agriculture and food processing for the world’s food security by using innovative sustainable practices. Goyal said this while addressing the Asia Pacific Commission (APAC) 2024 Forum organized by French Foreign Trade Advisors held in New Delhi.
The Union Commerce Minister said that using sustainable practices can be a mitigation factor on climate change and its emerging adverse impacts across the world. Goyal said that India and France have immense potential for partnership in the field of renewable energy, as the International Solar Alliance (ISA) has achieved immense success.
Goyal said that more than 100 countries have taken membership of this alliance co-sponsored and led by India and France. Elaborating on the solar alliance, he underlined the efforts of both the countries to deliver clean and renewable energy to emerging and less developed countries of the world.
Regarding the aerospace sector, the Commerce Minister said that India is the largest aviation market in the world, where 1500 aircraft have been ordered and there is a potential to take this order to 2000. In his address, he also emphasized that India is rapidly building airports, which has increased from 74 in 2014 to 125 today. He also announced that the government is planning to add 75 more airports by the year 2029.
Goyal said that India is also rapidly expanding its defense sector. The central government is encouraging companies from all over the world to manufacture in India, so that they can get 100 percent ownership of their companies.
On cooperation in digital technology, Goyal said that both the countries can promote startups in cyber security, AI, e-commerce and quantum technologies. He said that in such a situation, the India-France Innovation Year 2026 will be a milestone in promoting technology-driven development. The Commerce Minister said that this initiative will promote joint projects in IT, healthcare, renewable energy and smart cities.
