Sources said that India may demand a relaxation of technical reach in areas such as telecom equipment, biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), drug manufacturing, quantum computing and semiconductor.
Demand to simplify export
India will also demand to simplify export controls under the proposed trade agreement with the US. In addition, India wants fees for labor-intensive areas such as textile, gems and jewelery, leather products, apparel, plastic, chemicals, shrimp, oilseeds, grapes and bananas. At the same time, the US is demanding concession in fees on agricultural products such as industrial products, automobiles (especially electric vehicles), wine, petrochemical products, dairy and apples.
Provide equal status
One of the sources stated that India may request the US under the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) to give it the same status as other major colleagues like Australia, Britain and Japan. Easy access to technology will be sought by relaxing export controls in areas such as telecom equipment, biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI). The availability of state -of -the -art techniques in these areas is believed to give significant boost to India’s innovation capabilities, technical infrastructure and economic development. At the same time, the Commerce Ministry, who is leading the talks on the agreement, refused to comment on the questions asked in this regard.
