IRCTC: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made major changes in its new travel insurance policy, in which the insurance premium has been kept at 45 paise per passenger. This insurance policy is optional, but once chosen, it will become mandatory for all passengers traveling under the same PNR.

IRCTC: There is good news for passengers traveling by railway. Now you will get a cover of Rs 10 lakh for just 45 paise. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made major changes in its new travel insurance policy, in which the insurance premium money has been kept at 45 paise per passenger. This insurance policy is optional, but once chosen, it will become mandatory for all passengers traveling under the same PNR. This scheme is only for Indian citizens and only passengers booking through e-ticket can avail it.

Who can apply?

This insurance is only for Indian citizens who book e-tickets through IRCTC. However, foreign nationals, passengers booking tickets through agents or other travel agencies cannot avail this facility. Children below 5 years of age, who book tickets without a seat. Will not be included in this insurance. But for children in the age group of 5-11 years, this insurance will be available if the ticket is booked with or without seat.

Sum Assured and Benefits – The insurance money under the insurance policy is divided into four categories.

Transfer of dead body: Insurance benefit of up to ₹ 10,000 will be provided for the transfer of dead body after a railway accident or other incidents.

Hospitalization Expenses for Injury: This plan has an insurance benefit of up to ₹ 2 lakh for hospitalization expenses in case of injury.

Permanent Partial Disability: 75% of the insurance benefit will be given, which can be up to ₹ 7,50,000.

Permanent Total Disability: 100% of the insurance amount will be given on permanent total disability in case of accident, which will be up to ₹ 10 lakh.

Death: In case of death due to accident during travel, the nominee will get 100% of the insurance amount, i.e. up to ₹ 10 lakh.

How to get insurance?

Insurance information will be given to the passenger through SMS and email. Policy number and other information can be checked by the passenger from their ticket booking history. Nominee details should be filled after ticket booking on the insurance company’s website. If nomination details are not filled, payment will be made to the legal heirs in case of a claim. This insurance policy will be applicable only for confirmed and RAC ticket holders. This policy is designed to provide protection to passengers in case of accident or unforeseen events during the journey.
