Iran’s Foreign Minister reached India.

New Delhi: Iran’s Foreign Minister has reached India during the tension situation between India and Pakistan. However, his visit to India is being done with the aim of strengthening strategic relations. Iran’s Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi arrived in New Delhi on Thursday to co-chair the 20th India-Iran Joint Commission meeting. High level talks between the two countries are taking place at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the India-Iran Friendship Treaty.

Official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs welcomed

Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, welcomed Iran’s Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi. In a post on X, Randhir Jaiswal said, “Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi was warmly welcomed after reaching New Delhi for the India-Iran Joint Commission meeting. This is an opportunity to review and increase this bilateral cooperation on the 75th anniversary of the Indo-Iran Friendship Treaty.” At the same time, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi is on a two-day visit to New Delhi from Wednesday to co-chair the 20th Joint Commission meeting with India.

Bilateral meeting with S Jaishankar

In addition, the Ministry of External Affairs said that this is Araghchi’s first visit to India since Iran took over as Foreign Minister in August 2024. According to the release, a meeting of the Joint Commission held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Indo-Iran Friendship Treaty will review the further route to strengthen issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations between the two countries. During his visit, Araghchi will hold a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House on 8 May. He will later meet President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Pakistan visited before India

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Embassy in India said that Iranian Foreign Minister will visit India after stopping in Islamabad, where he would interact with Pakistani officials. On 25 April, the Iranian Foreign Minister called on X to establish peace in the neighborhood in a post. His call for peace came on 22 April in view of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which tourists were targeted, killing 26 people. (With ANI inputs)
