Jammu and Kashmir Textile Sourcing Fair is making an important contribution in the development of textile industry – Lieutenant Governor
Jammu. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered the keynote address at the “Jammu and Kashmir Textile Sourcing Fair-2024” through virtual mode today. The Lieutenant Governor talked about the rich textile traditions of Jammu and Kashmir and increased market access and export opportunities for artisans and local manufacturers. He said that J&K Textile Sourcing Fair is now a gathering place for buyers from India and abroad and is making a significant contribution to the growth of the textile industry and benefiting local artisans, manufacturers and entrepreneurs. The Lieutenant Governor said that the textile sector is reviving in Jammu and Kashmir. The sector has achieved impressive growth rates over the last 50 months while celebrating the rich textile traditions of the Union Territory and we are determined to grow further with new initiatives.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the reform-oriented policies and programs of the Government are designed to promote the craft industry, especially in the textile sector. He said that the unique cultural and artistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir is globally competitive and has always been a gift. Apart from this the government has laid a major emphasis on the development of necessary infrastructure, financial support and skill training to the artisans. The Lieutenant Governor said that the rich textile tradition of Jammu and Kashmir is the pride of India. The intricate designs, wonderful themes and subtle colors of our textile products are truly priceless. Our artisans have shown the world that our artistic heritage stands not only for excellence but also for sustained excellence in the field of creativity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor called upon the national and international buyers to play their important role in promoting the unique textile products of Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring access to new markets for the talented artisans of Jammu and Kashmir. The Lieutenant Governor told the buyers that we have great opportunities to work together. We must carry forward our tradition of cooperation and take our productive partnership to a new level.
National and international buyers, exporters and importers participated in the fair organized by the Department of Industries & Commerce, Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization and Handloom Export Promotion Council at SKUAST Kashmir. It provided a platform for B2B meetings, exhibitions and workshops that helped participants connect with national and international buyers, update all stakeholders about market trends and enhance requisite skills.
