Jeep Compass Revs Up with 272HP Turbo Petrol Engine: Power, India Launch, and More
Jeep the company known for its premium car offerings in the global market has once again revamped its Compass line-up with some interesting additions. The newly launched car comes with a plethora of new features which is going to be a head-turner for car enthusiasts. Here are more details about the Jeep Compass 2024.
Jeep Compass 2024 New Changes
Under the hood, the Jeep Compass 2024 is powered by a gigantic 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine which is capable of generating a maximum of 272bhp and 400Nm of torque. The power ratio in the newly announced Compass makes it one of the most powerful Compass ever launched by the American automobile marque.
Just to let you know, this is the same engine which also powers up the Jeep Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee SUVs. The Compass features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which isn’t freshly designed but hails from FCA’s (now Stellantis) Global Medium Engine (GME) family. This engine tried and tested, comes in various states of tune, with select markets offering a hybrid variant. Additionally, it powers certain Alfa Romeo and Maserati models, albeit in a different configuration.
Performance-wise, the Compass is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kph in 6.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 228kph, as claimed by the brand. It’s paired with a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission, providing smooth gear shifts. The SUV comes standard with full-time 4WD, featuring Mud and Sand modes for enhanced off-road capability.
Furthermore, it boasts larger 300mm brake discs for improved braking performance. Additionally, the shock absorbers have been recalibrated to enhance ride quality and handling.
Is It Coming to India?
Yes! That’s the biggest question, Is the Jeep Compass 2024 coming to India anytime soon? Well, currently the company is not selling petrol-powered Compass in the country and earlier reports have claimed that Jeep is planning to relaunch the Compass petrol in India, so it’s a yes with a pinch of salt. By 2025, the Compass is slated to receive a downsized powerplant, a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing approximately 185 horsepower. This smaller engine variant will be introduced to the market, offering a balance of performance and efficiency.
