Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai took the oath of office on Wednesday as the 52nd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to Justice BR Gavai as the Chief Justice of India (CJI). Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind and other dignitaries were present at the time of swearing in.

After taking the oath, Chief Justice BR Gavai greeted everyone and proceeded to shake hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, he took the blessings of his mother. He touched his mother Kamaltei Gawai’s feet.

The tenure of the new CJI will be 6 months

Justice BR Gawai is India’s first Buddhist Chief Justice of India. After independence, they are the second CJI from the Dalit community. His term will be six months.

The main decisions of Justice BR Gavai include retaining bulldozer Justice, to maintain the cancellation of Article 370, maintaining demonetisation, retaining sub-classification in Scheduled Caste quota, giving bail to the poem of Telangana in the liquor policy, twice criticizing the CM Revanth Reddy of Telangana.

The new CJI BR Gawai was born on 24 November 1960 in Amravati, Maharashtra. He started advocating on 16 March 1985. In the early years, he bar. King S. Worked till 1987 with Bhosle (former Advocate General and Judge of the High Court). After this, from 1987 to 1990, he practiced independently in the Bombay High Court. Justice Gawai practiced mainly in Nagpur Building of Bombay High Court after 1990, in which constitutional and administrative laws were special areas. He was a permanent lawyer for Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Amravati Municipal Corporation and Amravati University.
