Kia has gained fame in India in a very short time and is currently the fifth best selling car manufacturer in the country. In 2024, the South Korean auto major plans to introduce several new products including compact SUVs. Here we have told about 2 new upcoming compact SUVs.
1. Kia Sonet Facelift
Kia recently debuted the Sonet facelift and has officially opened bookings for the updated Sonet from December 20. Its prices will be announced in January. Kia has relaunched the 'K-Code' priority initiative and bookings can be done through the Kia website or dealership. The brand will start deliveries of all variants except the diesel MT variant for the Sonet in January 2024. Its delivery is scheduled for February.
The 2024 Kia Sonet features a comprehensive safety suite with 25 features, including six airbags and ten Level 2 ADAS functionalities as standard. Apart from this, it comes with more than 70 in-car connected features like Find My Car with Surround View Monitor (SVM), Hinglish Command and Valet Mode. The compact SUV also features a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with LED sound-ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and navigation, 10.25-inch instrument panel, leather seats, automatic climate control, etc.
There are no changes in performance and hence the 1.2 liter four-cylinder NA petrol produces 83 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. Whereas the 1.5 liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine produces 116 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and the 1.0 liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine produces 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque. The wide variety of transmission options include 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed AT and 7-speed dual-clutch AT.
2. Kia Clavis
Kia India has applied to trademark the Clavis name and it will reportedly be used for a compact SUV, which will be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos. Internally codenamed AY, it will be offered in ICE and electric forms, but the electric version may take some time to be introduced. However the ICE version is speculated to launch in late 2024 or early 2025.
It will have more robust styling to differentiate itself from the Sonet, but it will not offer a 4WD system to compete against lifestyle off-road SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. This Sonet facelift, fourth generation It will be launched after the Carnival and EV9 flagship 7-seater SUVs.
