The upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics are witnessing a surge in the number of Indian athletes qualifying, building on the momentum gained from Tokyo 2020. The Tokyo Games marked a historic milestone for India with a contingent of 124 athletes, yielding the country's highest medal tally in a single Olympics, including Neeraj Chopra's iconic gold in the javelin throw. So, today we will talk about Indian athletes who booked their tickets to Paris.

Bhowneesh Mendiratta, a skilled trap shooter, secured India's initial qualification for Paris 2024 after winning a quota place at the ISSF World Championships. Notably, Indian shooters achieved a significant milestone by securing quotas in every Olympic shooting category for the first time. Meanwhile, race walkers Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh emerged as the first Indians to qualify for athletic events in Paris in 2024.

In certain sports, like shooting and wrestling, Olympic quotas are allocated to countries rather than individual athletes. This enables flexibility, allowing the athlete who earned the quota to be replaced by another leading up to the Games.

India booked whooping six quotas in a 20-kilometre race walk

The men's 20-kilometre race walk witnessed a remarkable feat as six Indian athletes surpassed the Paris Olympics qualifying standard. However, it's essential to note that each national federation can send a maximum of three athletes in the event to the Olympics.

While achieving the entry standard is a significant accomplishment, the final decision regarding athlete representation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games rests with the National Olympic Committees (NOCs). NOCs hold exclusive authority over the selection of athletes to represent their respective countries at the Olympics.

As the qualification process unfolds, Indian athletes eagerly await the nod from their NOCs, eager to showcase their prowess and contribute to India's sporting success on the global stage once again. The Summer Olympics will begin on July 26th, 2024, and run until August 11th, 2024. The tournament will be hosted in the French capital, Paris.
