Yashpal (English: Yashpal, born- 26 November, 1926; died- 24 July, 2017, Noida) was a famous scientist and educationist of India. He is considered to have made a special contribution in enhancing the scientific talents in the country. Recognizing his achievements, the Government of India honored him with Padma Awards. Yashpal also used to host a scientific program named ‘Turning Point’ on Doordarshan. He has made a special contribution in the field of education in India. He was strongly against overburdened studies in education. That is why he had drawn the attention of the Government of India to this issue several times.
Introduction
Famous educationist and scientist Yashpal was born on 26 November 1926 at a place called Jhang (now in Pakistan). He completed his graduation in Physics from Punjab University in 1949. After this, he did his PhD in Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1958. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
career
Yashpal started his career from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. In 1973, the Government of India appointed him the first Director of the Space Applications Centre. He was also the Chief Advisor to the Planning Commission in 1983-1984. He was Secretary in the Department of Science and Technology. Apart from this, he was also given the responsibility of Chairman in ‘University Grants Commission’. Yashpal also used to host a scientific program named ‘Turning Point’ on Doordarshan. He had a special contribution in the field of education.

- Professor Yashpal was awarded ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 1976 and ‘Padma Vibhushan’ in 2013.
- In the year 2009, he was awarded ‘Kalinga Samman’ by UNESCO for playing an important role in promoting and popularizing science.

Yashpal ji died on July 24, 2017 in a private hospital in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
