New Delhi: One should never lose faith in Karan Johar’s ability to get Bollywood celebrities to react or talk about uncomfortable topics on his Koffee couch. In the latest episode, the filmmaker asked Alia Bhatt about the ‘wipe it off’ lipstick controversy that raked up many headlines and accused her husband and actor, Ranbir Kapoor of being ‘toxic’.
Alia addresses ‘lipstick-gate’
When Karan asked Alia about her comments in the video that started the whole issue, she said that she was taken out of context. The actress added that she has a candid way of speaking about her personal life which included personal anecdotes.
Alia said that her words in the video were picked apart. She recalled that when her team informed her about the video going viral, she asked them to let it be. But she was shocked to learn the serious articles that were being written about how Ranbir was a ‘toxic man’’. She said, “at that moment I thought, are we serious? There are many issues in the world to give more attention to.”
The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress also said that Ranbir’s absence from social media also affected the way the couple was trolled by the internet.

Alia defends Ranbir Kapoor
Alia said that she felt really bad when everything happened especially because Ranbir is the complete opposite of what was being talked of him. She added that there was a line that was crossed but there was nothing that could be said about it.
The actress said that Ranbir has always told her that the audience owns her as a public figure. “As long as your movies are doing well please don’t complain sitting in your apartment in Bandra,” Alia added.
What was ‘lipstick-gate’?
Alia Bhatt was a part of a beauty tutorial video where she had said that her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, didn’t like it whenever she wore lipstick. She said that he would tell her to ‘wipe it off’ because he loved the natural colour of her lips.
The video didn’t go down well with the internet as people found the behaviour overbearing and ‘toxic’. Many took to social media to voice their opinion and analyse Alia and Ranbir relationship.
