New Delhi: Sending shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry, Meghanathan recently breathed his last. He was 60 years old age at the time of his tragic demise. The renowned Malayalam actor reportedly passed away due to complications arising from a lung-related illness.
According to ANI, Meghanathan had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. His last rites were scheduled to be performed at his residence in Shoranur on Thursday (November 21, 2024).
As soon as the news of Meghanathan’s sudden death surfaced online, netizens flooded social media with messages of mourning. Kerala’s Minister for General Education, V Sivankutty, expressed his condolences through a heartfelt Facebook post. He described Meghanathan as an exceptional talent who redefined villainous roles in Malayalam cinema. “Tributes to actor Meghanathan,” he wrote, sharing a picture of the late actor.
Who was Meghanathan?
Over his illustrious career, Meghanathan carved a unique place in the Malayalam film industry with numerous memorable performances. Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, he was the third child of legendary actor Balan K Nair and Sarada Nair.
Meghanathan began his cinematic journey in 1983 with the Malayalam film Asthram. While he rose to fame for his portrayals of antagonistic roles in his splendid career. However, Meghanathan never shied away from showcasing his acting prowess by taking diverse characters in movies.
His most celebrated works include Panchagni, Chamayam, Chenkol, Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Prayikkara Pappan, Rajadhani, Bhoomigeetham, Udyanapaalakam, Ee Puzhayum Kadannu and Vaasthavam. Meghanathan is survived by his wife and daughter. He last appeared onscreen in Samadhana Pusthakam earlier in 2024.
