MS Dhoni, Abhinav Bindra will work with the Indian Army for Operation Sindoor! Government’s big step amidst Indo-Pak tension

The central government has taken an important decision on 9 May amid the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. The government has allowed the Indian Army to activate the Territorial Army (TA). This means that the Army Chief can call officers and soldiers associated with the Territorial Army if needed.

They can be deployed in essential military functions such as guard duty or can be imposed directly with the army. The decision has been taken under Rule 33 of the “Territorial Army Rules 1948”.

Stress increased after Pahalgam attack, India’s retaliation

Significantly, recently 26 people were killed in an attack of Pakistan-backed terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. After this, India retaliated on the night of 6 May under the ‘Operation Sindoor’ on 9 terrorist bases in Pakistan.

The Territorial Army also includes many celebrities. These include former cricket captain MS Dhoni, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Union Minister Anurag Thakur and Congress leader Sachin Pilot. MS Dhoni joined the Territorial Army in 2011 and has also done 15 days duty with Victor Force in Kashmir in 2019. MS Dhoni Honorary Lieutenant has been ranked. At the same time, Abhinav Bindra also joined this force under the Sikh Regiment in 2011.

What does the Territorial Army work?

According to the Ministry of Defense, there are a total of 32 battalions of infantry in the Territorial Army. These battalions will be deployed in various military commands of the country – such as Soutorn, Eastern, Western, Central, Northern and South Western Command. The Territorial Army is considered a regular army’s ‘second line of defense’. It consists of citizens who voluntarily expressed their desire to join the army and have received military training, so that they can be ready to protect the country in an emergency.
