Mumbai man blackmails woman with intimate chats, arrested

Mumbai: A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly raping a woman doctor and subsequently blackmailing her. The incident came to light when the woman approached the Gamdevi police station in south Mumbai to file a complaint against the accused. According to the complainant, she met the accused during badminton sessions at a club in the Tardeo area of Mumbai. During this time, she was not living with her husband due to some domestic issues.

Accused allegedly spiked the woman’s drink

The accused began gossiping about the woman’s personal life, which raised her suspicions. When she confronted him, he suggested meeting up to resolve the issue. On August 20, they met at a club in the Marine Drive area. It was during this meeting that the accused allegedly spiked the woman’s drink. Subsequently, he accompanied her to her house in a car, where they consumed wine.

In a vulnerable state under the influence of alcohol, the woman stated that she was raped by the accused. The traumatic incident took place while she was not in a position to give consent. Following the incident, the accused started blackmailing the victim. In October, he demanded money from her. Initially, she complied with his demands, but when she refused further payment, the accused threatened to expose videos, images, and chats to her husband and friends.

Feeling increasingly pressured and unable to cope with the situation, the woman allegedly gave the accused Rs 3.33 lakh. However, when she reached a point where she could no longer pay, she decided to seek help from the police. The authorities took immediate action, and the man was arrested under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion). The investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence and establish all aspects connected to the case.
