Press Council of India
The Press Council of India (PCI) is an independent authority created by law in 1979.
The Press Council of India aims to protect press freedom and improve the quality of newspapers and news agencies in India. It was established in 1966 based on recommendations from the first Press Commission, and its goals were the same as today’s.
However, the original law was cancelled in 1975, and the Council was dissolved during the emergency period. A new law, similar to the previous one, was passed, and the Press Council was re-established in 1979.
