Duhai depot becomes green depot
On the other hand, the solar power plant installed at Duhai Depot station equipped with 320 solar panels has an installed capacity of 108 kW. Earlier in July this year, a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 585kWp was installed at RRTS depot at Duhai, making the depot a green depot.
NCRTC achieves a major progress towards sustainability
With this initiative, NCRTC has achieved a major step towards sustainability as the three solar power plants are expected to reduce a total of approximately 1600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year. This reduction in emissions has been achieved by using clean and green solar energy instead of traditional fossil fuel-based power sources. This move towards solar energy is in line with NCRTC's commitment to reduce carbon footprint while optimizing operational costs. These solar initiatives by NCRTC are in line with its Solar Policy adopted in March 2021, which aims to generate around 11 MW of in-house solar power at stations, depots and other facilities over the next five years in traction and non-traction The objectives are to increase the share of renewable energy.
Awarded a platinum rating
To contribute towards a clean and green environment, NCRTC has also taken a step forward towards the goal of achieving the highest rating of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certification. In this direction, NCRTC has recently been awarded the highest, platinum rating of the prestigious 'Project Award for IGBC' for Ghaziabad Receiving Sub Station (RSS) and Sahibabad RRTS Station. Additionally, the RRTS equipped with green energy and minimum water consumption systems will improve the overall passenger experience in this green transportation model and also encourage greater usage of public transportation. The installation of these solar power plants testifies NCRTC's unwavering commitment towards sustainability and clean energy practices. This initiative is in line with the objectives of the National Solar Mission and strengthens the role of NCRTC in promoting clean, sustainable energy sources to benefit the National Capital Region as well as the country as a whole.
