The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is continuously taking strict measures to prevent online fraud and cybercrime. In this regard, it has decided to do traceability of messages, under which the person and organization from the sender of the commercial telemarketing message to the person and organization that finally receives the message can be tracked. Earlier this system was to be implemented from November 1.

The deadline set by TRAI for implementing the message traceability rule was October 31, 2024, which was extended by one month to November 30, 2024, on the demand of telecom operators like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea. Now the deadline has been again extended till December 11. As per TRAI, “With effect from 11th December 2024, any traffic (messages) where the chain of telemarketers is not defined or does not match with pre-defined chain shall be rejected.”

After the implementation of TRAI’s new traceability rule, the OTP messages coming to mobile users can be easily tracked. If explained in clear words, now if you are cheated through any OTP, then telecom companies will be able to find out the source of that OTP message. According to TRAI, this can be of great help in stopping cyber fraud.

Fake messages:

After the implementation of OTP Traceability Rule, the number of spam calls or fake messages coming to mobile users can be identified. This new rule of TRAI will provide great relief to crores of mobile users across the country. With the new rule, all the messages coming to the mobile from the route of telecom companies can be easily tracked.
